Composition

Triangular composition is a way of organizing a picture in ways that the frame is divided into a triangle. A famous example of this is the Mona Lisa the picture is arranged in a way that the head and shoulders appear to be triangular. In these photos, you should look for elements that hint at being triangular.

The one-thirds composition is when the picture is arranged with the focus being on one-third of the frame while the other two frames are blank or not the main focus. When viewing these images look for the two vacant frames.

diagonal composition is when one line or two crosses the frame separating it into two or more sides. This results in the frame tending toward more diagonal and if you squint your eyes the photo appears to move or slide diagonally.

  1. I like the abstractness of some of your photos. Also, I like how you were able to make some of the images look like they were taken at certain times of the day.

  2. I like the light and the color of a lot of the pictures and how they are well taken and editied.

  3. Hi Pablo! Initial thoughts- though not mentioned in your artist's statement, theres a red-orange recurring motif in your photo set that I really enjoy. Makes the set very cohesive and intersting. I'm wondering why you made that bold (and successful) artistic choice. Your photos show that you clearly undertand these aspects of composition and are able to put them in practice. Great work!

  4. Nice work Pablo. I enjoyed your diagonal photos and I also liked the reoccurring theme of orange and red colors in your images. I think your best rule of thirds pieces were the ones where the subject was in front of a plain background, allowing the subject to "pop". Keep up the good work!

  5. I love the colors in all of these, especially the diagonal series. I think the best shot is the red sky and the black phone wires and pole. Keep doing these silhouetted shots, this shot was very simple and clean and demonstrates the concept of diagonals extremely well because of the lack of the visual distractions.

  9. The colors on these photos stand out very well. Most of the photos have either a warm or cool feel, which really makes them look nice. The framing is very well done, and I like how you did not capture the whole object, but just a shape within the object.

  10. I really like how you took a bland color like grey and then made a very flamboyant color like red pop out and be the main focus in the picture

Spring Project #2

For my second week, I switched over from shooting little figures to capturing Pac Heights architecture. To get the pictures I shot up the wall and tried to capture the sharp angles and contrasts of the glassy buildings. I like the way that the glass reflects and creates the bright reflections which contrast with the darker backgrounds.

Winter 4

Winter 4 For this batch of photos, I hoped to create a sort of simpler vibe with not a lot going on with there being a ton of things going on. I prefer a simple photo with nothing too flashy going on and one main point that the eye naturally gravitates to. I, however, do like the vibrant colors of the last photos so I included them.

Portfolio

Portfolio The images I chose for my portfolio I feel demonstrate the direction in which I took the project. I hoped to take photos that were pleasing to the eye and at the same time captured David Gillivers little people. I was hoping that you got a vibe of the person is either resting from doing a task or they are doing the task.In the ones were they appear stagnant perhaps there is meant to be a subtle energy where they are supposed to be doing what they are doing. They are supposed to be resting and that something was happening before they were there and something will happen afterwards.
